I love the explanation on why we get gaps in the brushes. I work for someone who leaves his brushes in water and I have such a hard time "training" the brush. I always thought he was just buying crappy brushes. Also, is there ever an application when one would ever have use for natural bristles?

This deserves way more views. As far as I can tell, this is about the most in-depth video around on some of the elements tackled. One thing I would like to see in depth, and with specifics, is what you talked about in the beginning re: the manipulation of the brush/bristles. As in perhaps a standard vertical piece of trim with body color on all sides and maybe cement below. I'm sure there's a small tip or two dealing with wrist movement and/or angles, etc. How do you cut in along the sides of something like that and maintain a perfect line? (Talking exterior here--no tape/caulk)

Deric' Anslum yeah. Thanks anyway. All the advice there is online is: paint up and down with the grain. Remember not to miss any spots. (that one's my favorite.) I'd like to see a guy with a brush show how turning his wrist or wiggling the brush might be done most effectively. The mechanics , I guess

...based on my best imagining of your explanation...much of that skill is a combination of knowing how your paint "behaves" and how the bristles behave on that texture...not being able to share pictures on YouTube severely limits the ability to give a concise answer...

Expressions Painting 2/2 I would think that the "flatter" you hold a brush to a wall the less the bristles could go over the edge and potentially paint unwanted areas? You're talking about this at three beginning of this particular video, I think.

Expressions Painting (Edit: excellent videos, by the way. Really clear, concise, well-paced, and informative. And thanks for your response.) I actually watched that one, as well as your 'trim' video but I guess I was looking for the subtleties of 'making the bristles do the work' and maybe how to do the corners of a board. If there's a vertical board surrounded by a different color, how would you hit the very tips of the four corners? And do you use the same angle for the edges of boards as you would a ceiling cut-in? Minor curiosity :Is there ever a time you should use the big flat side(s) of your brush to gently drag over an edge? Like a door frame or maybe window sill? (This technique really fails if there's any kind of slope to what you're painting) Sorry for the length of the post.

Great video Remi, the way you teach is exactly how I learn best. You're one of the rare few who give the why with the how making it easier to spot where and why my cutting in is suffering. Thanks for the extra effort!

Remi, nice professional informative tips! Most painters and DIY don’t know how many parts to a brush! 8 Here it is! Handle, ferrule, heel, spacers, epoxy glue, filaments, chisel and flag tips! Cheers! Don gooseneck guy!

This video would be so much more helpful if you actually cut in around a ceiling and vertical casing. A picture is worth a thousand words and a video clip is better yet. All that said, I really enjoy what you have to offer. Thanks!

Can someone explain to me the concept of ‘the top of the curve’ and ‘bottom’? I’m trying to conceptualize what he’s saying but it’s not quite computing.
4 жыл бұрынExpressions Painting
Eric Sawaf if the joints are not square, there will instead be a curve that you could choose to do your cutting in either at the top of bottom of that curve. Imagine if we blow up that corner to the point where it’s as big as a half pipe. That’s what I mean by “curve”. You could choose to cut in either at the bottom of that half pipe (curve) or at the top.
