I think your template/ proposal was great, love the way you explained it and it is very helpfu. There are no errors because losing money is not the name of the game in business. Requiring a down payment, plus material cost upfront, after surface prep, has been a huge boon to my business. 1. Someone unwilling to pay for paint, is unwilling to pay you. 2. By giving the down payment after preparation, they are not risking money, rather they are partially settling up, and cannot use excuse of preparation lacking for reason not to pay. 3. You are filtering out anyone with intentions at the outset for cheating you.... Before this, I was constantly being hustled by the third of people that are evil in regard to business dealings..... The customer risks nothing, and you only risk labor cost on preparing the surface.

I've worked for many companies that was unable to pay employees because of EXACTLY what you say..many companies are so eager to get that " big job" only to be hustled out of any profit they could have had....I call it big fish eats the little fish..seen it hundreds of times..small painting company try to get big contract..guy with big contract let's small company " give it a shot"..big fish has deep pockets for Lawyer..small fish..not so much..paint not paid for..prep.( sometimes the hardest part) not paid for...THEN DAMAGE TO PAINT JOB OCCURRED..( OTHER TRADES)..and now punch list has to be done..damage repairs..crew members dropping off like flies because they ain't been paid..oh...can't make deadline?? were not paying for THAT.. finding a good client that pays..has good credit is much better than chaseing those carrots on sticks..I learned long ago what you say is 💯 truth..if they can't afford the paint the definitely can't afford the painter..you can't pay for a pinto and expect a Cadillac

After having three different painters come to my home and spend an hour as I walk them through telling them what I’d like I didn’t hear back from them fr weeks. My realtor nudged them and One finally sent a vague quote. I’m moving out & Want to kiss this place goodbye. Don’t want to deal with extra costs above & beyond, what’s the payment schedule & their start/ end dates, who is cleaning up, Confirmation for things like that. I’d requested detailed breakdown so I could compare & Understand the expectations. I don’t feel comfortable doing business with these guys now & May just pass on painting. Quotes are so important and I appreciate you covering this!
